Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently provided their explanation behind their decision to removing Shaheen Afridi as Captain of Pakistan National Cricket Team men for T20Is with Babar Azam who will now act in that capacity, replacing Shaheen Shah Afridi as white-ball captain.

PCB issued a statement on Sunday explaining their decision in order to ensure players do not become exhausted and continue playing well. To do this effectively they want to ensure all players, particularly frequently playing players like Shaheen Afridi, receive sufficient rest allowing for long careers without injuries.

Shaheen Afridi has long been recognized for his superb fast bowling abilities and leading Pakistan’s bowling team for some time, but the PCB considers it essential that they allow him time off to ensure they remain healthy over an extended period. They hope this measure can keep players like Afridi healthy so as to prepare them for future important matches.

The PCB discussed issues surrounding player injuries prior to major tournaments such as the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and 2023. Players such as Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah weren’t able to play due to injuries.

PCB hopes that with Babar Azam’s selection as their captain, their aim is to keep Pakistan’s primary bowlers rested and prepared to play effectively when necessary; part of its plan to ensure Pakistan cricket team remains powerful and efficient.
